Dr. Marion Koso-Thomas is a board member, Sierra Leone Arc of Hope, and board certified pediatrician with a Masters of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Since 2008 , she has served as a program officer for the Global Network for Women’s and Children’s Health Research at NICHD ; providing scientific and programmatic oversight for large multi-center international clinical trials, focusing on cost-effective interventions that reduce maternal and infant mortality in developing countries.

SIERRA LEONE ARC OF HOPE SECURES 10 ACRE LAND FOR CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL CONSTRUCTION IN WATERLOO

The Sierra Leone Arc of Hope (SLAH), a 501-C-3 non-profit and non-political organization wishes to inform the public of its latest success. SLAH has secured a ten (10) acre land in Waterloo, off New Freetown Waterloo – Masiaka Highway for the construction of the state of the art children’s hospital. We hope to turn the soil in December this year, and “construction to begin early next year”. Fellow Sierra Leoneans, and friends of Sierra Leone, we are relentlessly appealing to all to give full support to this project.

In November of 2008, a handful of Sierra Leoneans in the Diaspora lead by the Sierra Leone Ambassador to the United States, Mr. Bockari Stevens, gathered together at the Sierra Leone Embassy in Washington DC to discuss an initiative on a way to present a gift that would be beneficial to Sierra Leone to mark the country’s 50th independence anniversary on 27th April 2011.

After several brainstorming sessions, the original idea evolved into the inception of the Sierra Leone Arc of Hope (SLAH), a registered 501-C-3 non-profit, non political, tribal, race, gender, religion, colour, or nationality organization with a wider scope of objectives to deliver to Sierra Leone.

The objective of SLAH’s first project is to construct a modern hospital to address the dire health needs of the people in Sierra Leone and to introduce a program whereby health care and educated professionals in the Diaspora engage in volunteer services while on vacation in Sierra Leone.

The Sierra Leone Arc of Hope is encouraging every one, Sierra Leoneans and friends of Sierra Leone to collaborate and help make this dream come true.

1. The Sierra Leone Embassy in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Arc of Hope hosted a picnic-like meeting in Washington DC on May 30, 2009 at 4821 Colorado Ave, NW, Washington DC 20011. The event marked the official launching of the Sierra Leone Arc of Hope.

3. Sierra Leone Arc of Hope was in attendance at the Leadership for Health African First Ladies Health Summit in Los Angeles, California, April 20-21, 2009.

4. His Excellency, the President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, and Her Excellency, the First Lady of Sierra Leone, Mrs. Sia Koroma have fully endorsed the Sierra Leone Arc of Hope.

5. The Minister of Health and Sanitations for Sierra Leone, Hon. Sheku T. Koroma has also endorsed the Sierra Leone Arc of Hope. The Minister has pledged support from his ministry to provide assistance to the organization. He applauds the foundation members for a noble mission for Sierra Leone, and says the country badly needs such project.
